What is XNet?
XNet by McJty is a networking mod for Forge and NeoForge that routes items, fluids, energy, and information through a single cable type managed from one Controller GUI. One XNet cable spine through the machine room replaces separate item, fluid, energy, and redstone pipe systems, with every connection configured centrally.
It is exceptionally performant — XNet networks tick as one unit — which is why large bases and server players favor it for dense automation.
Setting Up Channels
- Place a Controller and run Netcables to your machines.
- Attach Connectors on cable ends facing the inventories and machines you want to address.
- Open the Controller GUI and create a channel (item, fluid, energy, or logic). Each controller supports eight channels.
- Configure endpoints per channel. Click a connector in the grid and set its mode (insert or extract), filters, priorities, stack sizes, and redstone conditions.
- Color-code cables with the four cable colors to keep separate networks apart in tight spaces; Advanced Connectors unlock faster rates and cross-color access.
A single item channel can express "pull ores from these three chests, push to the furnace with priority 1, overflow to the barrel" — logic that would take a dozen pipe segments elsewhere.
Tip: Energy in XNet moves through the same cables and channels, so one spine both powers machines and moves their inputs and outputs.
XNet FAQ
How many channels does an XNet controller have?
Eight per controller, each carrying one transfer type. Routers and additional controllers extend larger bases; most machine rooms fit comfortably in one controller.
Is XNet good for performance?
Yes, it is one of the most server-friendly logistics mods. Each network ticks as a single unit, avoiding the per-block update cost of conventional pipes.
Does XNet need power?
Controllers consume a small amount of FE, and advanced operations raise the cost slightly. Feed the controller from the same network it manages.
