What are Xaero's Minimap and World Map?

Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map are companion mods by xaero96 covering the two halves of navigation: a rotating (or north-locked) corner minimap with waypoints and entity dots, and a persistent full-screen world map built from everywhere you have explored. They install together, share data, and run noticeably light on frames — a big reason they top download charts on Fabric and Forge alike.

A separate Fair-Play minimap edition removes radar features (no entity positions), keeping it legal on strict PvP servers.

Waypoints, Sharing, and Map Features

  • Waypoints are created with B and render as floating beacons in the world. They organize into sets you can switch per activity — one for mining, another for exploration — and deaths auto-drop a skull waypoint.
  • World map (M) pans and zooms across explored terrain with cave layers, slime chunk overlay options, and biome coloring; create waypoints straight from the map.
  • Entity radar on the minimap distinguishes hostiles, passives, and players with configurable icons and colors.
  • Waypoint sharing: print a waypoint to chat so teammates click to add it — the fastest "meet me here" in modded multiplayer.
  • Per-server storage keeps maps and waypoints separated automatically.
  • Minimap shape, size, zoom, and north-lock all configure from the in-game settings (Y by default opens map settings).

Both mods coexist with FTB Chunks, rendering claim overlays on Xaero's maps in packs that ship the trio.

Xaero's Minimap & World Map FAQ

Do I need both Xaero's Minimap and World Map?

They work independently, but pair them: the minimap handles moment-to-moment navigation while the world map stores the full exploration record. Waypoints sync between them.

How do I share a Xaero waypoint?

Open the waypoint list, select the waypoint, and use Share to print it in chat. Other Xaero users click the message to import it.

What is Xaero's Fair-Play version?

A minimap build without entity radar and cave maps, compliant with servers that ban location-revealing mods. The standard edition shows entities; pick per server rules.
