What is The Lost Cities?

The Lost Cities by McJty generates a decayed urban civilization, from skyscrapers with intact and collapsed floors down to the subway systems beneath them, with rail bridges and highways stretching between city clusters. Choose it as a world type when creating a world and the entire overworld becomes the aftermath of an unnamed catastrophe.

Buildings hold loot proportional to danger — floors are laced with spawners — making city-diving the core gameplay loop on Forge and NeoForge.

World Setup and Survival

  1. Create a world → World Type → Lost Cities (on newer versions, pick the Lost Cities world preset).
  2. Pick a profile: presets range from scattered ruins amid wilderness to wall-to-wall endless city, plus themed variants like floating city chunks and cavern cities. Packs can lock a profile; the mod's config customizes everything from building density to vegetation decay.
  3. Survive the first night indoors: buildings offer shelter, tools, and chest loot, but interior spawners and darkness make floor-clearing a combat activity.

Survival rhythm: secure a low floor, light it, loot upward, and treat subways and highways as pre-built roads between city centers. Diamond-tier loot exists in upper floors and vaults guarded accordingly.

The mod pairs famously with tech mods (city ruins plus Mekanism reads as pure post-apocalypse) and with RFTools Dimensions, which can generate Lost City dimensions on demand.

The Lost Cities FAQ

How do I enable The Lost Cities?

Select the Lost Cities world type or preset at world creation. Profiles (city density and style) are chosen there or in the mod config; servers set the level type before first generation.

Can I get Lost Cities alongside a normal overworld?

Profiles with sparse cities mix ruins into standard terrain, and RFTools Dimensions integration can host cities in a separate dimension while your overworld stays vanilla.
