What is Enchantment Descriptions?

Enchantment Descriptions by Darkhax adds a sentence of plain English to every enchanted book's tooltip explaining what the enchantment actually does. In modded games with dozens of unfamiliar enchantments from combat, magic, and tool mods, this one tooltip saves constant wiki tabs.

It ships for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge across a wide version range and needs zero configuration.

How It Works

  • Books first: enchanted books show the description under the enchantment name; a config extends descriptions to enchanted gear tooltips too.
  • Mod coverage: descriptions come from language files, so mods can supply their own text and translations; for enchantments without provided text, the mod generates a sensible fallback from registry data on recent versions.
  • Pack-friendly: descriptions are overridable through resource packs, letting pack authors document custom or rebalanced enchantments right in the tooltip.

Pairs naturally with recipe viewers: search an enchantment in JEI/REI/EMI, read what it does on the book, and skip the external lookup entirely.

Enchantment Descriptions FAQ

Does Enchantment Descriptions cover modded enchantments?

Yes. Mods that ship description lang entries display them directly, and most popular enchantment mods do. Missing entries fall back to a generated or blank line depending on version.

Is it client-side only?

Yes, it renders tooltips client-side and installs safely on clients joining vanilla-compatible servers.
