What is Jade?
Jade by Snownee is the maintained successor to WAILA/HWYLA, the "What Am I Looking At" HUD. Aim at any block or entity and a small tooltip names it and shows which mod it belongs to, then layers on live details — furnace progress, crop growth, chest contents, mob health, or the energy buffer of a machine.
It runs on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge and has become the default info HUD in most modern packs.
Everyday Use and Configuration
Everything works out of the box; the value is in the details:
- Block breakdowns: a furnace shows its smelting progress and fuel, brewing stands show their timers, and spawners identify their mob, while hoppers and chests preview what is inside.
- Entity data: health bars, breeding status, horse stats, and villager professions on hover.
- Mod integration: tech mods surface energy and fluid levels; agriculture mods show growth stages — Jade's plugin API is widely adopted.
- Config UI: the config screen (bound to a key listed under Controls) toggles every module individually, moves the overlay, and switches themes.
- Sneak for more: holding sneak reveals extended details on many blocks.
Tip: The "show item names on look" module plus inventory previews makes Jade a fast base-auditing tool: sweep your machine wall and read every buffer without opening a single GUI.
Jade FAQ
Jade, WAILA, HWYLA, or The One Probe: what is the difference?
WAILA and HWYLA are the discontinued ancestors; Jade continues that lineage with modern loader support. The One Probe is a separate take on the same idea with a different visual style and probe-in-hand option.
How do I configure what Jade shows?
Open the Jade config screen from its keybind in Controls (or via mod menu integration). Every plugin module has an individual toggle, and the overlay position, scale, and theme are adjustable.
Can Jade show chest contents?
Yes, inventory previews render for most containers within the configured item limit; sneaking often expands the preview.
