What is Quark?

Quark, by Vazkii and team, is the definitive vanilla-plus mod for Forge and NeoForge: a few hundred small features that each feel like something Mojang could have shipped. Every feature lives in a toggleable module, so packs and players curate their own Quark.

The name is the philosophy — a quark is a very small thing, and so is each feature; the sum changes how the game feels without changing what it is.

Highlight Features

A sampling across its module categories:

  • Building: vertical slabs, more stair and wall variants, thatch, framed glass, rope, and wood sets for every vanilla tree part (hedges, ladders, posts).
  • Inventory: right-click armor to equip, shulker box right-click insertion, chest sorting buttons, and item-sharing links in chat.
  • World: underground biomes, big stone clusters (granite caves, limestone), fallen logs, and speleothems.
  • Automation: pistons can move block entities and dispensers place blocks, plus redstone randomizers and chains that connect minecarts.
  • Mobs: crabs, frogs, stonelings, and foxhounds — small creatures with one trick each.
  • Tweaks: double-door opening, better ladders, reacharound placement, and dozens more; the in-game q-button config shows everything with screenshots.

Matrix Enchanting (from the companion Quark Oddities content) replaces the enchanting table flow with a minigame of placing enchantment pieces on a grid — the most distinctive single feature in the suite.

Quark FAQ

How do I turn Quark features on or off?

Open the Quark config from the title screen or pause menu (the q button) — every module and feature has an individual toggle with descriptions and previews.

Does Quark need other mods?

It requires its companion library (Zeta on modern versions; AutoRegLib historically). Packs bundle it automatically.

Is Quark available for Fabric?

No official Fabric build; Forge and NeoForge only. Fabric packs assemble similar vanilla-plus coverage from smaller single-feature mods.
