What is Dynamic FPS?
Dynamic FPS by juliand665 throttles Minecraft's framerate when the game does not need it: unfocused window, hidden window, AFK idle, or laptop on battery. Vanilla happily renders 200 FPS behind your browser while you read a wiki; this mod drops that to 1–10 FPS and hands the GPU, CPU, and battery back to the system.
The moment you refocus, full framerate resumes instantly. Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge builds exist across a wide version range.
States and Settings
Four states, each with configurable FPS caps and volume levels:
| State | Default behavior |
|---|---|
| Focused | normal rendering |
| Unfocused | ~10 FPS, reduced volume |
| Hidden/minimized | ~1 FPS, muted |
| Idle (AFK) | reduced after a timeout |
Extras worth knowing:
- Battery mode (on supported systems) applies caps when unplugged and can show charge status.
- Downloads keep running: world loading, chunk generation, and server connections continue at full speed while throttled — only rendering slows.
- Toast/notification handling ensures you still hear pings if you configure volume floors.
For multitaskers and modpack players who alt-tab during long smelting runs, the mod pays for itself in fan noise alone.
Dynamic FPS FAQ
Does Dynamic FPS slow chunk loading while tabbed out?
No, simulation and networking continue normally; only frame rendering throttles. Long AFK sessions at farms behave identically.
Can I change the throttled framerates?
Yes, per-state FPS caps and volume multipliers are configurable in the mod settings screen.
