What is Building Gadgets?
Building Gadgets, from Direwolf20's team, approaches construction as a tech problem: four FE-powered handheld gadgets place, swap, copy, and clear structures. It is the builder's toolkit for tech-pack players — charge it from your power wall and raise a factory shell in minutes.
The mod targets Forge from 1.12.2 through 1.20.1.
The Four Gadgets
- Building Gadget: places blocks in modes (wall, grid, surface, stairs, vertical column) at range, drawing blocks from inventory or linked Construction Paste containers. Undo included.
- Exchanging Gadget: swaps existing blocks for another type in area patterns without breaking — retexture a floor while standing on it.
- Copy-Paste Gadget: copy a region as a template, then paste it anywhere (or share templates between players via the Template Manager block). The classic use: design once, stamp nine machine rooms.
- Destruction Gadget: clears volumes instantly (with undo), the excavation counterpart.
Support pieces: Construction Paste substitutes for real blocks when pasting large templates (crafted in bulk from dust), and the Charging Station keeps gadgets fed. Range, energy cost, and undo depth are config-tunable.
Building Gadgets FAQ
How do Building Gadgets get power?
They store FE and charge in any energy-charging block (or the mod's Charging Station). Each placement costs energy scaled by config.
Is Building Gadgets on 1.21?
Official builds cover Forge through 1.20.1 at the time of writing; newer-version packs pair Effortless Building or Create contraptions for similar roles.
