What is Productive Bees?
Productive Bees by LobsterJonn extends vanilla's bee system into a full resource economy: dozens of resource bees (iron, gold, diamond, ender, and modded-material species) produce combs that centrifuge into their material. Breeding, habitat requirements, and gene-adjacent traits make it a collection-and-optimization game on Forge and NeoForge.
If bees exist in your pack, someone on the server is running a bee empire by week two.
Hives, Breeding, and Production
- Catch wild species with bee cages from worldgen nests (solitary bees live in specific biomes and blocks).
- House them in Advanced Beehives with Expansion Boxes — the productive versions of vanilla hives with inventory outputs.
- Breed for species: feed pairs their preferred flowers or treats; specific parent combinations produce new resource species (the in-game guide and JEI show breeding trees).
- Convert species: several resource species arise from feeding bees treats or exposing them to their source material, following the recipes in the guide book.
- Process combs in the Centrifuge (powered variants scale) into resources plus honey byproducts.
- Optimize: hive upgrades, gene sampling, and honey treats tune productivity — late-game apiaries produce high-tier materials passively.
The mod balances via comb output rates and breeding difficulty; packs frequently gate top species behind quests.
Productive Bees FAQ
How do I get resource bees?
Catch base species in the wild, then follow breeding recipes (flower/treat plus parent pair) shown in JEI and the in-game guide. Some species convert from exposure to their resource.
Why are my bees not producing?
Check habitat: correct flowers in range, valid hive with space, day/weather conditions, and species temperament. The hive GUI and bee tooltips report unhappiness causes.
