What is EMI?

EMI by Emi is the newest of the big three recipe viewers, built for Fabric with Forge and NeoForge releases. Its headline feature is the recipe tree: pick an item and EMI unfolds the full crafting chain — every sub-ingredient, every quantity — into a planning view that tells you exactly what to gather.

EMI can also run as a front-end on top of JEI plugins, which gives it wide mod compatibility despite being younger.

Usage and the Recipe Tree

Standard genre controls apply (R for recipes, U for uses), with EMI extras:

  • Recipe tree / crafting planner: from any recipe, open the tree to see the complete dependency chain with totals. Mark what you already have and EMI recalculates remaining needs.
  • Batch crafting: request multiples and the tree scales quantities, then the fill buttons move ingredients grid by grid as you craft down the list.
  • Favorites with recipe binding: favorite an item with a specific recipe attached, so A-key crafting always uses your preferred route.
  • Craftable view: the sidebar can show only items you can currently make from inventory contents.
  • Tag browsing and clean handling of fluids, chance outputs, and catalysts in recipe displays.

Tip: In packs shipping both EMI and JEI, EMI usually runs as the visible interface while JEI supplies recipe plugins underneath. Keybind conflicts between the two are the first thing to check when lookups misbehave.

EMI FAQ

What makes EMI different from JEI and REI?

The recipe tree and crafting planner. EMI decomposes any craft into total raw materials and walks you through batch crafting, which the other viewers only approximate.

Does EMI work with mods that only support JEI?

Yes, via its JEI plugin compatibility layer; most JEI-registered recipes render inside EMI automatically.

Which versions does EMI cover?

Minecraft 1.18.2 through 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge, with Fabric receiving updates first.
