What is Dynamic Trees?

Dynamic Trees by Harleyoc1 and MaxHyper replaces Minecraft's instant column-of-logs trees with organisms. Seeds root into saplings that thicken into branching trunks over real time, canopies spread while roots grip the terrain, and a felled tree topples as a physical object dropping wood proportional to its actual mass.

Forests become ecosystems — trees seed their surroundings, age, and die — and chopping gains a lumberjack rhythm on Forge and NeoForge.

Mechanics and Compatibility

  • Growth: trees develop through continuous stages; soil quality, light, and biome fit affect speed and final size. Bone meal and the mod's fertility mechanics accelerate growth.
  • Chopping: cut the trunk and the tree falls with physics, yielding logs and sticks scaled to its volume — a mature oak pays far better than a sapling farm's twigs.
  • Seeds replace saplings: vanilla saplings convert, and seeds plant themselves from fallen leaves over time, letting forests genuinely spread.
  • Rooty soil: trunks sit in root-infused soil blocks; digging the roots kills the tree.
  • Compat addons extend dynamic growth to Biomes O' Plenty, BWG, and other biome mods' trees — the "Dynamic Trees +" family — so mixed worlds stay visually consistent.
  • Performance: growth ticks are budgeted and configurable; large forests stay affordable.

The visual upgrade is dramatic enough that many packs include it purely for the aesthetic, with the harvesting gameplay as a bonus.

Dynamic Trees FAQ

Do Dynamic Trees work with modded biomes?

With the matching compat addon installed (BOP, BWG, and others), modded trees become dynamic too; without it, those trees stay vanilla-style.

How do I farm wood with Dynamic Trees?

Plant seeds in good soil, wait for maturity (bone meal accelerates), and fell the trunk; yield scales with tree size. Automated setups use the mod's config-supported harvesting interactions with machines from tech mods.
