What is Compact Machines?
Compact Machines, maintained by the CompactMods team, puts a full room inside one placeable block. Craft a Compact Machine, walk in with the Personal Shrinking Device, and build a factory in the pocket dimension inside; the block's outer faces pass items, fluids, energy, and signals through to whatever is inside.
Machine blocks come in six sizes (Tiny through Maximum, up to a 13x13x13 interior), and rooms can nest: compact machines inside compact machines is a legitimate strategy for infinitely dense bases.
Rooms and Tunnels
- Craft a Compact Machine of your chosen size plus a Personal Shrinking Device (PSD).
- Right-click the machine with the PSD to enter the room. Exiting uses the PSD again from inside.
- Place Tunnels on the room's interior walls. Each tunnel type maps an interior wall face to an exterior block face: Item Tunnels, Fluid Tunnels, Energy Tunnels, and Redstone Tunnels.
- Wire the outside. Pipes, cables, and hoppers interact with the machine block exactly as if it were the inventory or machine inside.
Typical uses: hiding a noisy mob farm, compacting a sprawling ore-processing line into one block on a wall, or containing explosion-prone setups (the walls are unbreakable from inside).
Note: Bring your PSD. Without one inside a room you will need another exit route; most versions add a safety respawn escape, but the PSD is the intended door key.
Compact Machines FAQ
How do items get in and out of a Compact Machine?
Place tunnels on interior walls and assign each to an outside face. External pipes and hoppers then see the connected inventory or machine as if it sat in the machine block itself.
What sizes do Compact Machines come in?
Six tiers from Tiny (3x3x3 interior) up to Maximum (13x13x13). Larger tiers cost progressively rarer materials.
Can you put a Compact Machine inside a Compact Machine?
Yes, rooms nest without limit beyond your material budget. Recursive factories are a signature of the mod.
