What is Structure Compass?
Structure Compass is a small utility mod by Mrbysco for Forge and NeoForge. It adds a craftable compass that points to the nearest instance of any structure in the game: villages, bastions, ancient cities, strongholds, and structures added by other mods or datapacks.
The mod replaces the /locate command workflow for survival players. Where the command needs cheats enabled and gives one-off coordinates, the compass keeps pointing live as you travel and works for every registered structure.
How to Use the Compass
- Craft a Structure Compass. The recipe wraps a vanilla compass in extra materials at a crafting table.
- Open the selection screen by sneaking and right-clicking with the compass in hand.
- Pick a structure. The GUI lists every structure type currently registered, including modded and datapack entries, with a search box for long lists.
- Follow the needle. The compass locks onto the nearest found instance and points toward it while held, updating as you move.
Because it reads the structure registry, the compass automatically covers content from mods like When Dungeons Arise or YUNG's structure packs the moment they are installed.
Tip: Searches scan outward from your position, so structures with sparse generation can take a moment to resolve. Pack admins can blacklist structures or tune the search radius in the config.
Structure Compass FAQ
Does Structure Compass find modded structures?
Yes. The selection GUI lists every structure registered with the game, including ones from other mods and datapacks, with no extra setup.
How is Structure Compass different from Nature's Compass or Explorer's Compass?
Nature's Compass finds biomes, and Explorer's Compass is a comparable structure finder for Fabric and Forge. Structure Compass by Mrbysco covers structures on Forge and NeoForge with a per-structure compass workflow.
Which Minecraft versions does Structure Compass support?
Builds exist from 1.15.2 through current NeoForge versions, including 1.21.x releases. Check the project page for the exact file matching your pack.
