What is Immersive Engineering?

Immersive Engineering (IE) is a tech mod with a retro-futuristic industrial aesthetic, built by BluSunrize for Forge and NeoForge. Machinery here means real structures: multiblock coke ovens, crushers the size of a room, overhead power lines sagging between relays, and a bucket-wheel excavator that chews through terrain.

IE generates and consumes Forge Energy (shown as IF, Immersive Flux), so it slots into any tech pack. The Engineer's Manual documents every machine in-game and is genuinely one of the best mod manuals ever written.

Getting Started: Coke, Steel, and Wires

  1. Grow Industrial Hemp. Hemp fiber makes rope and cloth for early recipes and windmill sails.
  2. Build a Coke Oven (multiblock of Coke Bricks, formed with the Engineer's Hammer). It converts coal into Coal Coke and creosote oil, and wood into charcoal.
  3. Build an Improved Blast Furnace to smelt iron plus coal coke into Steel, IE's core material. Add Blast Furnace Preheaters later for speed.
  4. String your first wires. Craft LV Wire Connectors and copper wire coils; connect a Kinetic Dynamo driven by a Windmill or Water Wheel for starter power.
  5. Assemble workshop machines. The Metal Press (plates and rods) and Crusher (ore doubling) are the first big multiblocks worth the steel.

Wiring has three tiers — LV (copper), MV (electrum), HV (steel) — with matching connectors, relays, capacitors, and transformers to step between tiers.

Signature Multiblocks

  • Crusher – ore doubling and gravel grinding at industrial scale.
  • Arc Furnace – fast alloying and steel production with graphite electrodes.
  • Fermenter, Squeezer, and Refinery – process crops and seeds into ethanol and plant oil, then into Biodiesel.
  • Diesel Generator – burns biodiesel for one of the strongest mid-game FE outputs in the mod's tier.
  • Excavator – sits on a surveyed mineral vein and extracts ore chunks indefinitely. Find veins with the Core Sample Drill.
  • Automated Workbench – blueprint-driven crafting for revolver cartridges and components.

IE also brings distinctive gear: the Revolver with craftable ammunition, the Mining Drill, conveyor belt logistics, and the Engineer's Toolbox aesthetic that pairs naturally with Create builds.

Immersive Engineering FAQ

How do I form Immersive Engineering multiblocks?

Build the structure from the exact blocks shown in the Engineer's Manual, then right-click the center or marked block with the Engineer's Hammer. The manual's projection mode shows block-by-block placement.

How does IE wiring work?

Attach connectors to machines, then link connectors and relays with wire coils of the matching tier: copper for LV (up to 2048 IF/t), electrum for MV, steel for HV. Relays route wires over distance; transformers convert between tiers.

Where do I get steel in Immersive Engineering?

Smelt iron ingots with coal coke in the Improved Blast Furnace multiblock. Coal coke comes from the Coke Oven. The Arc Furnace produces steel much faster later.
