What is Ice and Fire?
Ice and Fire by AlexModGuy and Raptorfarian is the definitive dragon mod for Forge. Fire, ice, and lightning dragons roam and roost in the world, aging through five stages, and you can either slay them for parts or raise one from an egg into a rideable mount. Around the dragons orbits a full mythology — hippogryphs, cyclopes, sea serpents, gorgons, pixies, and the myrmex hive insects.
It targets 1.10.2 through 1.20.1, with community NeoForge continuation efforts beyond.
Hunting, Hatching, and Riding
Hunting: wild dragons nest in surface roosts and underground caverns by element. Stage 4–5 adults are territorial disasters; hunters bring strong ranged gear and fire or frost protection potions. Kills yield scales, bones, blood, and skulls for dragonscale armor and dragonbone weapons.
Hatching:
- Loot an egg from a dragon cave.
- Match the element to hatch it: fire eggs sit in fire, ice eggs submerge in water, and lightning eggs need exposure to a storm.
- Hatchlings imprint on you: feed meat, name them, and equip a saddle as they grow through stages.
- Command with the dragon staff/horn: stay, wander, and mounted flight with breath attacks under your control.
Dragonsteel, forged late-game from dragon-flame-infused ingots, tops the gear ladder above dragonbone.
The supporting cast integrates: hippogryphs tame into fliers, sea serpent scales make trident-tier gear, and myrmex hives run a tradeable insect economy.

How do you hatch a dragon egg in Ice and Fire?
Match the element: fire dragon eggs hatch when placed in fire, ice eggs when submerged in water, and lightning eggs when exposed to a storm. The hatchling imprints on the nearest player.
Can you ride dragons?
Yes, raised dragons accept saddles around stage 2-3 and fly mounted with controllable breath attacks. Wild adults cannot be tamed, only fought.
